Ivan Teleguz was indicted for capital murder for the death of his former girlfriend, Stephanie Sipe, on July 23, 2001 in Rockingham County.    

Michael Hetrick, 31, of Warren, Pa., and his accomplice, Edward L. Gilkes, Jr., 27, of Altoona, Pa., testified during trial that Teleguz ordered Sipe to be killed.  Hetrick testified that Teleguz gave him $2,500 for the job.       

On July 18, 2006, a jury deliberated for less than three hours and found Teleguz guilty of murder-for-hire in the death of Sipe.[i]  Five days later, the panel recommended that he be sentenced to death. [ii]  Circuit Judge John McGrath imposed the death penalty on July 18, 2006.[iii]

The Virginia Supreme Court affirmed the capital murder conviction and death sentence on April 20, 2007.[iv]
