| AP - Lawmaker: Kaine to call special session |
|
By Bob Lewis and Larry O'Dell RICHMOND Virginia Gov. Timothy M. Kaine will call a special session to deal with a U.S. Supreme Court ruling that's having repercussions in the state's courts, a state lawmaker said Tuesday. Last month, the Supreme Court ruled that prosecutors must make forensic examiners available for defense cross-examination about lab reports on drugs, ballistics and other trial evidence. Defense attorneys already are citing the ruling and prosecutors fear it will jeopardize many cases. The legislator who said Kaine will call a special session spoke on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to pre-empt the governor's announcement. |
