Jeffery Remington

On December 21, 2000, a jury in the Circuit Court of Buena Vista sentenced Jeffrey Remington to die for the stabbing death of fellow inmate Brent Parker at the Augusta Correctional Center.

Remington, Parker, and Michael Lenz were in attendance at a meeting at the prison when a scuffle broke out and Lenz and Remington started stabbing Parker. Correctional officers intervened to stop the fight, but nevertheless, Parker died of his wounds at an area hospital. Although it was unclear whether it was Remington or Lenz who delivered the fatal blow, both men were charged with capital murder.

During the penalty phase of the trial, Remington was accidentally shocked by an electric restraining belt and hospitalized.  Remington’s trial counsel consented to permit the jury to continue its deliberations although Remington was not able to appear. In his absence, the jury decided on a death sentence.

Remington committed suicide while on Virginia’s death row on February 23, 2004.
